WHAT’S THE POINT?
The city of Pittsburgh is known for a lot of things: its sports teams, its history of manufacturing, putting French fries on everything, and its iconic three rivers. After traveling hundreds of miles through farmland and valleys, the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers converge at Pittsburgh to form the Ohio River. That location is what we Pittsburghers call “The Point” or Point State Park. And we believe this is a perfect picture of the Good News of Jesus and what the Church should be.
In Jesus Christ, God meets our brokenness and mistakes with grace and gives us a new life lived for and from him. It's all about Jesus. He's the point. When we place our trust in Him, our guilt and shame are turned to freedom. Our despair turns to hope. In Christ, we come alive, truly, for the first time.
Then, the Holy Spirit forms us into a community of imperfect people with different backgrounds and stories, and empowers us to bring hope and healing to a hurting world. We become the “Church”, a family that’s about more than just an hour or two on the weekend. Wherever we go, we display and declare the good news that Jesus is alive.
This is the story of God. It’s a story of grace, power, and hope. And it's the kind of story you can help us write here at The Point Church.
